Nurse in Cebu who fired gun inside restaurant killed by cop

A man was shot dead by police after he fired a gun inside a fast food restaurant in a mall in Talisay City, Cebu late Monday afternoon.

He was identified as Michelle Jeff Gabutan, 33, of Tabunok, Talisay City.

Gabutan was a registered nurse.

Superintendent Jason Villameter, Talisay City Police Office chief said that the suspect entered the Mang Inasal restaurant inside the Gaisano Fiesta Mall in Tabunok around 4:40 p.m. and immediately approached the manager. He then fired his gun in random for still unknown reasons.

A management trainee identified as Charity Cardiente, 21, was hit and wounded in the knee.

Several policemen who were dining inside the restaurant responded immediately when they noticed the commotion.

Gabutan was asked to surrender but he instead pointed his firearm towards the policemen, which prompted PO1 Erwin Denila to shoot Gabutan, Villameter added.

He was hit in the chest and rushed to the Talisay District Hospital but died while being treated.

Police recovered a Magnum 22 caliber pistol from Gabutan. It was also learned that he is a member of Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity.

Authorities were also investigating why Gabutan was able to bring a gun inside the mall.(via ABS-CBN News, Cebu Daily News)
