Filipino nurse wins P1.4 million in Dubai mall raffle

Filipino nurse working in Dubai went home with AED 100,000 (P1.4 million) by spinning and winning the Million Dirham Wheel raffle of a shopping mall in United Arab Emirates.

Angela Mortos, a Dubai-based nurse from the Philippines, qualified in the promo by spending around AED 2,000 on several visits to the City Centre Mirdif mall during Dubai Shopping Festival which ran from January 17 to February 2.

From all those who participated, Mortos was picked on February 2 for the opportunity to spin the mall’s Million Dirham Wheel.

“When they first called me, I didn’t pay much attention to it because I was with patients at the medical centre that I work for,” said Mortos, who has been working in UAE for five years now.

“I couldn’t believe it at first but when it sunk it, I was happy and overwhelmed all at once,” she added.

When asked what she intends to do with the unexpected windfall, the expatriate who came to the UAE five years ago said she would give a portion of the money to a janitor in the building she lives in.

“This sweet man does not know much English, but he makes it a point to say good morning to me every day and it makes my day. He is a complete stranger, but I want to be a blessing to him,” she said.

She also plans to spend some of the money to fix the graveyard of her deceased parents. “They died about ten years ago and their graves need attention. So, this is definitely something the money will go towards,” she added.(via Gulf News)
