Second Batch of Filipino Nurses Arrives in the Netherlands

Philippine Ambassador to The Netherlands J. Eduardo Malaya welcomed the second batch of Filipino nurses who arrived on 22 November in the Netherlands. The six nurses will work at the Zuyderland Hospital in Heerlen, Sittard.

Also warmly welcoming the nurses, at Amsterdam's Schipol Airport, were management team members of the Zuyderland Hospital who awaited their arrival for some time, as well as officials of the OTTO Work Force who engaged them under its “Asia-Europe Talent Bridge” program.

The Dutch health care sector faces shortages in nursing staff, particularly in the intensive care units (ICU) of hospitals. The nurses, who have deep experience in intensive care, will be assigned at the Zuyderland Hospital’s ICUs.

“Filipino nurses are recognized and much appreciated for their expertise, professionalism and caring attitude. We are pleased to help out in addressing staff shortages in certain Dutch hospitals. Their arrival also underscores the robust relations between the Philippines and The Netherlands, particularly in the labor and healthcare fields,” Ambassador Malaya added.

Consul Jarie Osias and Legal Officer Florisa Almodiel-Luteijn were with Ambassador Malaya.

The first batch of Filipino nurses arrived on 26 October and are now working at the HMC Hospital The Hague.

Similar to the first group, the second batch of Filipino nurses undertook eight months of training in the Philippines on the Dutch language, culture, and healthcare. They will undergo an additional 14-day training and orientation in The Netherlands before reporting for duty.
