DOH NHWSS to hire 21,547 HRH in 2023

Yes, the Department of Health (DOH) will continue to deploy Human Resource Health (HRH) workers in 2023 under the National Health Workorce Support System (NHWSS) program. 

According to the agency, a total of 21,547 nurses, doctors, midwives, dentists, pharmacists, medical technologists, nutritionists, and physical therapists will be hired nationwide for next year. 

In a Senate Finance SubCommittee D hearing for 2023 budget of the DOH, Officer-in-charge Ma. Rosario Vergeire said that the NHWSS will get a total of P16.95 billion funding under the National Expenditure Program, or the proposed budget for next year. 

Of the figure, P16.32 will be lodged on Personnel Services and P631 million for Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE). The funding will be used for salaries of 21,547 HRH and pre-service scholarship grants of 2,539 aspiring medical and allied health professionals. 

During the interpellation, DOH said that these health workers will be deployed to 4th and 5th class municipalities around the country as augmentation.

This is part of the Devolution Transition Plan (DTP) of the health department. In an earlier data given by DOH, the breakdown of HRH cadres under NHWSS in 2023 are as follows: 1,407 doctors; 11,795 nurses; 6,938 midwives; 222 dentists; 303 pharmacists, 601 medical technologists; 200 nutritionists; and, 81 physical therapists. 

The National Health Workforce Support System (formerly Human Resources for Health Deployment Program) is the thrust of the government to deploy, redistribute, and retain health workers in the country to enhance access to quality health services and improve health outcomes.
