PRC-BON Resolution No. 38 series of 2016 issued November 18 and published in major newspaper with nationwide distribution has declared, among others, the removal of IVT as requirement for employment or promotion.
"Completion of intravenous therapy training shall not be required for employment or promotion but may be credited or favorably considered in the evaluation of the nurse's application for employment or promotion," the Resolution stated.
- IV therapy training SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED for employment or promotion.
- However, healthcare institutions MAY employ a test to verify the level of the nurse's or skills on intravenous therapy prior to hiring.
- If the nurse demonstrates BASIC COMPETENCE in IV therapy, no further training shall be required of the nurse.
- If the nurse does not demonstrate basic competence in IV therapy, the healthcare institution SHALL PROVIDE intravenous therapy training to as an "in-service training program" AT NO EXPENSE TO THE NURSE, as per BON Resolution 31 s.2015
- ALL IV therapy training programs should be accredited under the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Council for Nursing, and all accredited providers shall issue certificates which reflect said CPD Units.
- Board Resolution No 08, s of 1994 and all other issuance or parts thereof inconsistent with this Resolution are hereby repealed or amended accordingly.
