ANSAP: Continue IV Therapy program

Association of Nursing Service Administrators of the Philippines (ANSAP) urged its providers to continue with Intravenous Therapy (IVT) programs.

IV Therapy training is 3-day program designed to enhance the nurses' knowledge, skills and attitude in the delivery of their expanded role as intravenous nurse therapists. ANSAP is the nursing organization mandated to administer and accredit basic IVT training for nurses.

ANSAP issued the statement in counter to announcement of Department of Health (DOH) undersecretary Roger Tong-An in recent Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) National Convention 2016 held October 17-19, 2016 Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas.

Usec. Tong-An said that nurses don't need to renew their training for IV therapy. "To all nurses who wish to renew their IVT card, NO NEED TO RENEW!," he exclaimed.

Nurses all over the country was elated to hear the announcement as most of them see IVT training for renewal of card is unnecessary and just another burden to them.

But ANSAP posted in their social media page that the IVT programs should go on.

"Please continue with IVT program. We will inform you as soon as possible for any changes. Thank you," ANSAP Management said.

ANSAP Bulacan chapter also added that IVT program has CPD units that are needed for next year renewal of PRC ID card.

"For all registered nurses/ IV Therapists who are confused, ANSAP IVT trainings and seminars have CPD units to help registered nurses to complete the needed 45 units to renew their PRC license," it posted.

The 3-day Basic IV Therapy Training has been accredited by PRC CPD Council with 24 units of CPD.

DOH has not issued official policy statement regarding the matter. Philippine Hospital Association (PHA), who will hold national convention on November 16-18, is still mum on the issue.
